   KUALA LUMPUR, Rabu - Penduduk di kawasan berhampiran tapak apartmen Highland Towers, Hulu Klang, yang runtuh kira-kira tujuh tahun lalu, bimbang kejadian semacam itu berulang apabila kawasan bukit berdekatan terus digondol dan dimajukan dengan projek perumahan. Sekurang-kurangnya tiga projek perumahan mewah dan kos sederhana sedang dilaksanakan kira-kira dua kilometer dari Zoo Negara dan hanya 100 meter dari kondominium lima tingkat Desa Ku I dan II.

   KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - Hillslope clearing work near the site of Hulu Klang's Highland Towers, which collapsed seven years ago, is keeping nearby residents sleepless for fear of a repeat disaster. Developers are erecting at least three luxury and medium-cost housing projects about 2km from Zoo Negara and only 100m from the five-storey Desa Ku I and II condominiums.

   HULU KLANG: Tragedi kondominium Highland Towers runtuh pada 1993 mungkin hampir luput daripada ingatan masyarakat negara ini, namun dua bangunan kediaman itu masih tegak sebagai memorial hitam, hingga kini. Dua kondominium 12 tingkat dengan 100 unit kediaman di Hill View, Hulu Klang itu, terbiar usang dan sepi, menyimpan ingatan tragedi berdarah yang mengorbankan 48 penghuni Blok 1 pada 11 Disember 1993.

   KUALA LUMPUR, Ahad - Bekas penduduk dan pemilik blok satu kondominium Highland Towers yang runtuh pada 11 Disember, 1993, mungkin perlu menunggu lebih lama sebelum keputusan kes mereka terhadap sembilan defendan diputuskan. Penduduk dan pemilik blok satu Highland Towers membentuk satu penal jawatankuasa kecil tiga anggota perundangan selepas blok kediaman mereka runtuh, bagi mengendalikan kes mereka yang kini ditangguhkan di Mahkamah Tinggi Kuala Lumpur.

7. Highland Towers: Longer wait for outcome NST 21/01/2002
   KUALA LUMPUR, Sun. - The former residents and owners of Highland Towers Block 1 which collapsed on Dec 11, 1993, may have to wait a little longer to know the outcome of their case against nine defendants. The residents and owners had formed a three-member legal sub-committee to handle their case which is now pending in the High Court.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Mon. - The findings of a trial judge in a civil suit filed by 73 former residents of Block Two and Three of Highland Towers were contradictory and went beyond the pleadings, the Court of Appeal heard today. Counsel Cecil Abraham said High Court judge Datuk James Foong's finding contradicted the plaintiffs' own evidence and submissions, adding that Foong was wrong in concluding that water was the cause of the collapse of a high wall that led to the Tower 1 toppling and killing 48 people in December 1993.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Selasa - Mahkamah Rayuan hari ini diberitahu hakim perbicaraan kes saman tragedi pangsapuri Highland Towers tidak mempunyai asas untuk memutuskan Arab-Malaysian Finance Bhd (AmFinance) cuai sehingga menyebabkan berlaku runtuhan satu daripada tiga blok pangsapuri itu. Peguam Cecil Abraham berhujah AmFinance sebagai sebuah syarikat kewangan dan bukan pemaju perumahan tidak pernah bercadang untuk membangunkan tanah miliknya dan membina bangunan di kawasan bersebelahan pangsapuri itu.

19. `Pure economic loss cannot be recovered' NST 27/11/2002
    KUALA LUMPUR, Tues. - The 73 residents of Block Two and Three of Highland Towers cannot recover their losses following the collapse of Block One because it was pure economic loss, the Court of Appeal heard today. Counsel Cecil Abraham said the law was clear that pure economic loss could not be recovered as a result of damage to property of another (Block One), adding that the loss was unrelated to property damage or personal injury that occurred in Block One.

20. `AmFinance tidak peduli keadaan tanah runtuh' BH 28/11/2002
    KUALA LUMPUR, Rabu - Mahkamah Rayuan hari ini diberitahu, Arab-Malaysian Finance Bhd (AmFinance), tidak memperdulikan keadaan tanah kosong miliknya di belakang pangsapuri Highland Towers, walaupun berlaku runtuhan tanah di kawasan itu. Peguam Rajendra Navaratnam, yang mewakili 73 pemilik dan penghuni pangsapuri itu memberitahu mahkamah, AmFinance mengetahui kejadian tanah runtuh di kawasan berkenaan sebelum kejadian runtuhan sebuah daripada tiga pangsapuri itu sembilan tahun lalu.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - The economic loss suffered by 73 former residents of the two remaining blocks of Highland Towers is recoverable, the Court of Appeal heard today. Counsel Rajendra Navaratnam submitted that this was because it was financial consequences directly flowing from physical damage caused when Block One collapsed in December 1993.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Thurs. - The Court of Appeal will decide on Tuesday whether to allow the appeals by Arab Malaysian Finance Bhd and four others against a High Court finding that they had contributed to a landslide at Highland Towers in 1993. This was the finding of High Court judge Datuk James Foong in a negligence suit by 73 former residents of Block Two and Three of Highland Towers.

The strength of soil masses is their resistance to shearing, and this is almost purely frictional.     AMFINANCE Bhd, formerly Arab Malaysian Finance Bhd, will appeal to the Federal Court against the Court of Appeal's ruling that the bank is liable for losses suffered by 73 residents of Highland Towers condominium who had to evacuate when a block collapsed in 1993. It has instructed its soliciter Shearn Delamore & Co to include an `application for stay' of the proceedings pertaining to the assessment by the High Court, to stop the carrying out of the ruling before the outcome of the intended appeal.

    PERJUANGAN menuntut pampasan daripada tragedi runtuhan pangsapuri Highland Towers yang meragut 48 nyawa masih berterusan walaupun ia berlaku 10 tahun lalu. Perbincangan antara plaintif dan defendan mengenai pampasan masih berlangsung walaupun mereka sudah menang di Mahkamah Tinggi dan Rayuan Kuala Lumpur tahun lalu.

    KISAH Nur Hamidah Najib menjadi terkenal pada 11 Disember 1993, apabila dia yang ketika itu berusia 18 bulan diselamatkan bersama ibunya, Umi Rashidah Khoruman, 22, dalam tragedi runtuhan pangsapuri Highland Towers di Hulu Klang yang menggemparkan seluruh negara. Pangsapuri 12 tingkat di Taman Hillview itu runtuh pada jam 1.30 petang disebabkan tapak tidak stabil dan kegagalan menahan pergerakan tanah.

    PUTRAJAYA: Mahkamah Persekutuan di sini, semalam, menetapkan hari ini untuk memutuskan sama ada Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) dibenarkan untuk merayu keputusan Mahkamah Rayuan berhubung tragedi Highland Towers yang meragut nyawa 48 pemilik dan penghuni pangsapuri itu, 10 tahun lalu. Tiga Hakim Mahkamah Persekutuan diketuai oleh Datuk Steven Shin memutuskan untuk membuat keputusan itu selepas mendengar hujah peguam MPAJ (perayu) dan peguam wakil penduduk (responden).
