    KUALA LUMPUR, Isnin - Persatuan Penduduk/Pemilik Highland Towers (PPHT) mendakwa laporan enam jilid Jawatankuasa Penyiasat Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) yang dikeluarkan pada Jun lalu, tidak lengkap kerana tidak menyatakan dengan jelas pihak yang terbabit menyebabkan keruntuhan kondominium itu tahun lalu. Sehubungan itu, PPHT mahu MPAJ menyatakan dengan jelas pemilik dua buah bukit di belakang kondominum itu yang dikatakan menjadi punca utama kepada keruntuhan itu.

    SHAH ALAM, Jumaat - Polis sudah menyelesaikan siasatan mengenai tragedi Highland Towers di Hulu Klang yang mengorbankan 48 nyawa pada 11 Disember 1993. Berikutan itu, polis mengemukakan beberapa cadangan kepada Pejabat Peguam Negara untuk tindakan selanjutnya.

  3. Police submit Highland Towers report BT 21/01/1995
    SELANGOR police have handed over to the Attorney-General's Chambers the report on their investigation into the Highland Towers tragedy. Selangor Deputy CID chief Supt Mat Zain Ibrahim said yesterday the report was submitted on January 14 but he declined to disclose whether police had found any element of negligence in the collapse of the condominium block in December 11 1993, which took 48 lives.

    SHAH ALAM: Keputusan sama ada terdapat atau tidak mana-mana pihak yang akan dipanggil untuk dibicarakan selepas didapati bertanggungjawab mengenai tragedi kondomunium Highland Towers yang runtuh pada 11 Disember 1993 akan diumumkan selepas pejabat Peguam Negara dan pejabat pendakwaraya membuat penelitian terhadap laporan siasatan polis dalam kes itu. Ini berikutan, siasatan yang dijalankan oleh sepasukan anggota dan pegawai polis Selangor selama 12 bulan sudah siap bulan lalu, manakala laporannya dihantar ke pejabat Peguam Negara dan pendakwaraya.

    SHAH ALAM, Fri. - Selangor police are awaiting a decision from the Attorney-General on the outcome of their year-long probe into the collapse of Block One of the Highland Towers apartments in Hulu Klang which killed 48 people. "The investigations were completed last month, and the investigation papers submitted to the Attorney-General last Saturday," State Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Superintendent Mat Zain Ibrahim said today.

    PETALING JAYA, Sun. - Attorney-General Datuk Mohtar Abdullah said today action would be taken against any party found to be implicated in any wrongdoing in the Highland Towers apartment block collapse "without fear or favour". He, however, urged the public to bear with him as his officers were still studying the investigation papers submitted by police to his Chambers.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Mon. - The engineer identified by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council inquiry team as one of the principal parties responsible for the Highland Towers building collapse that claimed 48 lives on Dec 11, 1993, is still practising. This is because the Board of Engineers, which formed a committee of inquiry to investigate the role of structural engineer Wong Yuen Kean, has still not completed its task and has not issued any order for the engineer to stop work.

    MALAYAN Banking Bhd has written off outstanding loans of owners of Highland Towers Block A units with immediate effect, the bank announced in a statement yesterday. Maybank managing director Amirsham Abdul Aziz said the decision is in line with the bank's commitment to assist those affected by the tragedy.

The welcome cheer came from Maybank managing director Amirsham A. Aziz who said it was in line with the bank's commitment to those affected by the tragedy.

    MORE banks are caving in after the move by Malayan Banking Bhd to write off outstanding housing loans owed by owners of Highland Towers' Block A units. Standard Chartered Bank (Stanchart) has decided to write off all loans relating to Block A of the condominium in Ulu Klang while the Bank of Commerce is meeting today to decide upon the steps it will take to ease the plight of the victims.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Thurs. - Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad (Stanchart) today became the second bank to write off the outstanding loans of owners of the ill-fated block A of the Highland Towers apartments. Stanchart deputy chief executive officer Razman Hashim, who announced the bank's decision in a statement, said it had also agreed to grant a one-year moratorium, effective up to Dec 31 this year, on loans affecting owners of blocks B and C.

    A DOMINO effect has emerged. The Bank of Commerce (M) Bhd yesterday announced it is writing off the outstanding loans for owners of apartments in Highland Towers Block A, making it the third bank to do so this week. The decision was made at the bank's credit committee meeting which had considered three alternatives - extending the interest-free period until the court hearing, writing off all loans or writing off half the loans.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Fri. - Bank of Commerce today announced it would write off the outstanding loans taken by owners to buy apartments in Block One of Highland Towers. The bank's announcement closely followed the decison made recently by Maybank Berhad and Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad (Stanchart).

    BANK Bumiputra Malaysia Bhd (BBMB) will make a decision soon on the status of outstanding housing loans to owners of the Highland Towers apartments. Three banks to date have announced their plans to write off such loans.

    MBf Finance Bhd has announced plans to write off outstanding housing loans for owners of apartments in Block A of Highland Towers, making it the fourth financial institution to do so over a one-week period. Block A, one of three Highland Towers blocks in Ulu Klang, had collapsed on December 11 1993 resulting in 48 deaths.

The company's senior vice-president, Catherine Yip, said MBf's move was in line with its strong commitment to help those affected by the tragedy which struck on Dec 11, 1993.

    IPOH, Sun. - Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Ting Chew Peh today expressed dissatisfaction over the delay by local authorities in providing the ministry with more details on the conditions of the flats they owned. "Some local authorities are slow and we have, in fact, reminded them to provide us with more details on the conditions of their flats," he said.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Selasa - Jabatan Penyiasatan Kajibumi akan mewujudkan Sistem Maklumat Data Geologikal dan Geoteknikal (Geodis) yang menyediakan maklumat lengkap mengenai geologi kawasan yang hendak dimajukan. Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Perusahaan Utama, Tan Sri Dr Othman Yeop Abdullah, berkata maklumat itu dapat membantu jurutera dan perancang merancang projek pembangunan dengan mengutamakan aspek geologi.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Tues. - Lawyers for the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (AJMC) have agreed to call for a meeting between interested parties of the Highland Towers' apartment tragedy in two weeks to discuss a settlement. The other two interested parties are Arab-Malaysian Finance and MBf Property, which own the hilltop and hillslope, respectively.

    SHAH ALAM, Tues. - The High Court here today postponed to June 29 the hearing of an application by the Highland Towers Residents and Owners Committee to quash notices issued by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (AJMC) ordering the repair or demolition of Blocks 2 and 3 of the Highland Towers in Hulu Klang. Justice Datuk Faiza Tamby Chik postponed the hearing after the counsel for the committee, developer Highland Properties Sdn Bhd, AJMC and tenant Yap Kim Hee and Sons Sdn Bhd, agreed unanimously that they needed time to study the report called "Highland Towers Condominium - A report on the conditions assessment of Blocks 2 and 3" prepared by Minconsult Sdn Bhd based in Petaling Jaya.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Sun. - Apart from torrential and incessant rain, development activities are one the major factors contributing to landslides, with the collapse of the Highland Towers in December 1993 that killed 48 people remaining the worst incident. In the pursuit of progress, the natural drainage of hills has been disrupted by ill-planned development, encroachment, illegal land-clearing and indiscriminate agricultural activities.

    THE Ampang Jaya Municipal Council received a final report on the Keramat Permai flats in Hulu Klang where part of the hillslope eroded on April 21. Council president Abdul Karim Munisar, who chaired the full board meeting yesterday, said a technical committee comprising Hulu Klang State Assemblyman Fuad Hassan, Datuk Paduka Raja Wan Mahmood Pawan Teh and representatives from the council's engineering deparment will meet again on June 9 to determine the future of Block C of the flats.

    PETALING JAYA, Khamis - Kementerian Kerjaraya mengarahkan Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) mengambil tindakan terhadap pelukis pelan berdaftar yang melanggar peraturan dengan melukis pelan bangunan melebihi syarat dibenarkan. Menterinya, Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu, berkata LAM perlu mengambil tindakan termasuk membatalkan pendaftaran pelukis pelan bahagian kedua terbabit jika mereka gagal mematuhi peraturan yang ditetapkan.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Sun. - The Department of Environment (DOE) is drawing up geographical maps containing information on potential soil erosion areas and distribution of natural resources for all States to assist the respective Governments in their development plans. The hearing was called following an application by the Highland Towers Residents and Owners Committee to quash notices issued by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council ordering the repair or demolition of Blocks 2 and 3 of Highland Towers in Hulu Klang.

    KUALA LUMPUR, Isnin - Semua bangunan melebihi lima tingkat wajib diperiksa keselamatan dan kestabilannya setiap 10 tahun bagi memastikan ia kukuh dan tidak membahayakan penghuni. Peraturan itu yang termaktub dalam pindaan Undang-undang Kecil Bangunan Seragam 1984 bertujuan memastikan kejadian bangunan runtuh seperti tragedi pangsapuri Highland Towers tidak berulang.
