Riverfront developer ordered to stop work

13/09/2008 The Star

IPOH: The Ipoh City Council has issued a stop-work order against a developer of the Kinta Riverfront project following complaints by nearby residents that cracks have appeared in their homes.

Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran (pic) said the council served a notice to the developer at 4pm yesterday.

He said the council had approved the project without considering those living nearby.

”The city council is the supervising authority and should be held accountable for its actions. We want to make sure this won’t happen again,” he told reporters during a meeting between the residents and developer representatives at Wisma DAP here.

Kulasegaran, who is also a city councillor, also expressed shock at the collapse of a 5m-section wall of the Kim Kwong Toong Temple beside the project site, minutes before the notice was served.

Project manager Leong Hwa Shin assured the residents that a list of remedial measures would be submitted on Friday.
