SHAH ALAM, July 19 (Bernama) -- The Selangor state government and Gaya Irama
Development Sdn Bhd today unveiled a mixed development project in Pekan
Subang to revive the township and surrounding areas adjacent to the Sultan
Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.
Called Pusat Bandar Subang Utama, the project will be on a two-hectare site
comprising modern facilities such as five blocks of shop and apartment
complexes, a four-storey carpark with a wet market on the ground floor as
well as power stations and a sewerage treatment plant.
Gaya Irama executive director Ali Shahrir Roose told reporters that
construction work was expected to start in the next two months.
The project was expected to be completed within 24 months with a gross
development value of between RM40 million and RM45 million, he said.
Ali said the project was on a privatisation basis with the state government
contributing the land for the company to develop in exchange for the wet
market and a primary religious school at Section U5, Subang Bestari.
He also said that the company currently has no landbank but was looking for
vacant government land to be developed via privatisation or abandoned
projects to be revived, especially in the Klang Valley.
Selangor state executive councilor for housing, Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Ahmad
Dahlan, who performed the ground-breaking ceremony, said the new project
would act as a catalyst for the development of Pekan Subang.
He said development of the area would be undertaken by the Shah Alam City
Council together with the help of the private sector and the township would
be renamed Bandar Subang Utama.
Mohd Mokhtar also called on the residents to hold on to their land as the
area around the airport would be developed into one of the biggest aerospace
centres in the region as announced by the federal government.
"There will be some spillover effect from the federal government project at
the Subang airport in terms of property value as well as business
opportunities in terms of sales of goods and services," he said.
It was previously reported that Terminal One of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah
Airport would be turned into the Malaysia International Aerospace Centre, a
global aerospace hub.
