    repairs

SUBANG JAYA: The Subang Jaya municipality has taken action on complaints by
residents of Pusat Bandar Puchong on the impact of Setia Walk, a development
    close to their homes.

The council's deputy president, Mohamad Yusoff Ghazali, said: "We had a
discussion with the developer and member of parliament for the area.

"Regarding the cracks which had appeared in some of the houses, the
developer of Setia Walk has agreed to carry out remedial works.

"Six houses have been affected and SP Setia Berhad Group has written a
letter agreeing to undertake remedial works."

Subang Jaya Municipal Council's building department would monitor the
progress of the work, he added.

On residents' complaints that the site was not meant for commercial
development, Mohamad Yusoff said: "The development was approved by the
Selangor town and country planning department and the Petaling district
    council.

"We just inherited it. The site was already approved for commercial
development, but it was left idle for some time.

"So, it appeared to the residents that it was a green lung. If house buyers
check the master site, they will realise that the place was earmarked for
    commercial purposes.

"Whatever has been approved is in order."

On complaints that the construction work was too close to some houses, he
said: "There is a set back of 66 feet and it meets the requirements of the
    law.

"We will a monitor the use of machinery to ensure the safety of residents.

"We will be having another meeting later this month with representatives of
the residents, developer and MP to discuss any other matters related to this
    project."

Streets reported on May 31 that the Setia Walk project was posing a headache
to residents as cracks had appeared in some of their homes due to
    construction work.

They also complained that the project was too close to their houses.

They also claimed that the area was not meant for commercial development.

Puchong member of parliament Gobind Singh Deo, who visited the site last
month, said that residents were alarmed that the project was too close to
    their houses.

He said the residents were also concerned about their safety as huge
construction machinery were being used close to their houses.

The Setia Walk project, which started last year, is an integrated commercial
and residential development next to the Damansara-Puchong Expressway and
Pusat Bandar Puchong's main thoroughfare, Jalan Wawasan. |
