Electricity deposit up for review

17/07/2007 The Star

PETALING JAYA: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is reviewing the deposit paid by its 5.7 million users nationwide.

The exercise is being carried out in stages via its electronic Customer Information Billing System (eCIBS), which will automatically calculate a user’s deposit amount to ensure it is aligned with the monthly electricity usage.

A TNB statement said the exercise was part of its efforts to streamline customer accounts and electricity needs and usage.

A deposit amounting to two months' usage of electricity is required from every user. The monthly average is derived from electricity usage over the last six months.

Under the new calculation, electricity users will need to top up the deposit if the two-month average electricity usage exceeds it.

Those who use less electricity in their two-month average will have the additional amount credited into their forthcoming bill.

TNB said users will be given a grace period to top up their deposit payment, which can be made at TNB outlets or other payment centres such as Pos Malaysia.

It also said the deposit would be returned on termination of the user's account.
