Green light for costlier ‘cheap houses’

Housing developers in Nusajaya have been given the green light to build medium-low-cost houses at higher prices.

State Works Committee chairman Datuk Baderi Dasuki said the houses would be priced between RM90,000 and RM108,000 instead of the usual RM80,000.

“The prices are higher because the size of the houses will range from 1,000sq ft to 1,200sq ft,” he said.

He told Osman Sapian (BN – Kempas) that housing developers were required to ensure that each housing project comprised 40% of low- and medium-low-cost units.

“The Government will not issue CFs if they do not comply with the ruling. We will also take stern action against them,” said Baderi when replying to claims that developers had raised prices indiscriminately.

He said the price of low-cost houses differed according to districts and locations.

“In Johor Baru, the houses are valued at RM35,000 while in other districts, they may cost RM28,000 or M30,000,” he said. “However, in other states, a low-cost house may even cost RM42,000.”

Baderi said there were now 74,114 low- and medium-cost houses in the state.
