Repairs going through the roof at Putrajaya
02/05/2007 The Star

PUTRAJAYA: Besides a burst pipe and a crumbling ceiling, Putrajaya Holdings (PJH) has another repair work to do: patching up a fire-gutted roof of a bungalow here.

Believed to be due to a short circuit, the fire on the evening of April 23 caused extensive damage to the roof of the house in Precinct 14.

The bungalow is part of a scheme meant for government servants under Superscale C and above.

Bad shape: The bungalow with its roof damaged in the fire on April 23 in Putrajaya.

A Works Ministry official confirmed that the bungalow project was under PJH and that it was inspected two months ago.

He added, however, that the Public Works Department did not issue a certificate of practical completion (CPC) for the house as PJH had failed to install air conditioning units as agreed.

“At first PJH refused to install the air conditioning units as it had misinterpreted the agreement. But it later agreed.

“So, another inspection was due after the installation of the air conditioning units but the house caught fire,” said the official, adding that the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.

PJH officials could not be reached for comments. However, a check at the bungalow yesterday saw contractors in the midst of repair works.

PJH is being blamed for three earlier incidents that had occurred in the administrative capital since last month – a landslide at Precinct 9, a burst pipe at the Immigration department and a ceiling collapse at the Entrepreneurial and Cooperative Development Ministry.
