3 condo dwellers hurt in blast caused by gas leak

The explosion shattered the windows of the condominium unit at Desa Pandan.

KUALA LUMPUR: A condominium unit at Desa Pandan here was almost destroyed while three people suffered serious injuries in an explosion caused by a gas leak yesterday.

A couple and a male relative, all in their 30s, suffered second-degree burns in the incident at a sixth-floor unit of Block H2 of Menara Polo.

The 1.30pm blast destroyed almost the whole unit and shattered the windows of nearby units.

Pudu fire station head Mohd Ramali Arbai said the explosion was due to a gas leak in the kitchen while the wife of one of the victims was cooking.

He said the unit also caught fire but firemen from the Hang Tuah and Pudu stations managed to bring it under control within 30 minutes.
Neighbours sent the victims to Kuala Lumpur Hospital where they were admitted to the burns unit.

They were reported to be in serious condition, especially the woman, whose lungs were damaged.
