Pahang sets target to process land matters

17/04/2007 The Star By Roslina Mohamad

KUANTAN: The Pahang government has set a target of processing land matters within two and a half months by making some changes in the public delivery system, which included spending an hour or two for thrice a week on signing the documents alone.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said there were cases of applications that took eight months because those who were supposed to sign the documents were simply too busy attending to various tasks.

Adnan cited his case as an example when certain applications took a long time to be processed because of his official duties as well as having had to attend to the Batu Talam by-election in January.

As such, more time would be allocated to signing documents on land transactions alone, Adnan said when replying to a written question by Datuk M.Davendran (BN-Sabai) here on Tuesday.

He also urged the the land and mineral director to do the same as it would help to speed up matters.

``There is also the possibility of using courier services and for that the public will have to be prepared to pay for extra costs.

``However, we have to check on this first and find ways to reduce the cost,'' Adnan said.

To a written question by Pang Tsu Ming (BN-Semambu), Adnan said Petronas was the leading agency to the making of the Eastern Corridor Development Masterplan that included Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Briefings had already been given to all the Mentris Besar and he noted that the livelihood and lifestyle, especially of the poor in rural areas, would be improved when this project took off.

However, details would be announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, he added.
