Residents put out fire

ABOUT 20 apartment residents formed a bucket brigade to put out a fire on the seventh floor of the Fettes Park apartment building in Penang.

The fire was doused within 15 minutes, said former residents’ association chairman Hughie Lee.

He said he received a call about the fire from resident CY Lee about 9.20pm on Sunday.

“I rushed up to the unit with a crowbar. The couple who lived there were out. By then a crowd had gathered.

“Thick smoke was billowing from the windows so we pried open the grill and wooden door. A table stack-ed with paper in the middle of the living room had caught fire.

“We then formed a bucket brigade and managed to put the fire out about 15 minutes before the fire en-gines arrived,” he said.

He said the couple who lived in the apartment were thankful to the neighbours for their prompt action.
