Project will court disaster

WE, the residents of Taman TAR, Hulu Klang, wish to put on record to the Selangor government and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) our vehement objections to the proposed large-scale mixed property development on the slopes of Ampang Hills overlooking Ukay Heights and Taman TAR.

Ampang Hills represent one of the last remaining pockets of green lungs in the Klang Valley.

It offers recreational facilities not only to Taman TAR residents but also to non-residents who come by every morning and evening to take in the cool mountain air and to enjoy the scenic environs.

A mammoth hillslope development, such as that proposed, would inevitably lead to destruction of Ampang Hills and its surroundings.

Already, there are huge question marks over the stability of the hilly terrain of Hulu Klang, as evidenced by the numerous landslides in the area every time there is a downpour.

Such development would involve rock and granite blasting and slope-cutting which would leave the involved hills denuded and exposed and will lead to soil erosion, mud flows and extensive flooding every time it rains.

Since the topography and geological structure of Hulu Klang is deemed unstable, one would think that any potential developer as well as the authorities should be extremely wary when contemplating any more hillside development.

We appeal to the developer, as well as MPAJ, to seriously consider the views and objections of the Taman TAR and UK Heights community to this proposed development.
