239 families get PPR houses

04/12/2007 The Star By Fazleena Aziz

AFTER a wait of almost 10 years, 239 families from Kampung Taiyu in Sungai Besi will finally be able to own Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PRR) homes. The families, who had been asked to shift out to make way for the Besraya Highway project, have been staying in temporary housing all these years.

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) has agreed to offer them PPR houses costing RM42,000 each near where they had lived. Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said RM25,000 would be borne by the affected families while Besraya Sdn Bhd would bear the balance of RM17,000.

Show of gratitude: Kampung Taiyu residents with a thank you banner after the price of their PPR units was lowered for them.
“The price was decided at the Cabinet meeting on Oct 3.

“It will take another four months before the families can shift because LLM has referred the matter to Bes-raya and EFP for further action.

“To date, there has been one round of registration to prepare the Sale and Purchase Agreements.

“The families had signed a contract in 1998. The project was supposed to be developed by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) but due to the financial crisis, it stalled.

“Then, three years ago, a new contractor was appointed by EFP, who built a mixed development in the area. We took legal action on this matter and the hearing was supposed to start this month. But then, we received this news on the PPR homes for the families,” she said.
