Cracks in walls of apartment spark fear
The Star 15/6/2006

THE residents of a five-storey low-cost apartment block in Bandar Puteri, Puchong, in Selangor are fearing for their lives after more than 100 cracks appeared on the walls, Tamil Nesan reported.

The residents have urged the developer to give them adequate compensation so that they could relocate.

Housing and Local Government Ministry parliamentary secretary Dr S. Subramaniam, who visited the apartment on Tuesday, was shocked at the condition of the apartments.

He directed the ministry's officers to investigate before initiating talks with the developer.

MIC Youth social and welfare bureau committee chairman T. Mohan said most of the residents on the first floor had moved out.

In another report, Tamil Nesan said Kuala Lumpur City Hall had given an assurance that it would temporarily freeze the demolition of illegal temples.

Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) president Datuk A. Vaithilingam said the assurance was given following discussions with City Hall and Hindu religious organisations on Tuesday.
