Don’t wash your hands just yet, developer told

The Kinrara assemblyman was taking the developer of KLH Apartments in Puchong to task for not even bothering to send a representative when a meeting was called to address the flooding at Menara KLH’s basement parking recently.

“I’ve requested that the strata titles for the apartment be put on hold until the problem has been rectified,’’ he said.

The strata titles for apartments in Menara KLH will be put on hold until the developer gets its act together.

The flooded car parks have caused hardship to the residents and they have, through the KLH Apartments Residents Association, called for the meeting with Dr Kow and the developer.

“I understand that the strata titles have been approved,’’ said Dr Kow.

“But, this does not mean that the developer can wash his hands off the problem or run away from its responsibilities to the residents.

“I have requested that the Petaling Land Office and the state government hold back the strata titles until the developer solves the problem,’’ he added.

Dr Kow said the residents experienced the worst of the floods since moving into their apartments in 1999.

It might be the fault of the developer that caused the mishap in the first place, he said. “Other contributing factors could be due to the fact that the land on which the apartments now stand was a mining area.’’

Dr Kow said the fact that the apartments were sandwiched between two highways - Kesas and the LDP – did not help residents anyway.

“Development at the neighbouring areas have also affected the apartments which is located below water level,’’ he said. The residents claim that water from below the ground was seeping into the building’s basement.

“There could be a lack of water proofing,’’ said association president Chong Kok Ken.

Dr Kow urged the Subang Jaya Municipal Council to conduct a study of the 450ha land in the area so that a complete flood eradication programme could be carried out as a long-term measure.

“For the moment, we will wait for the developer’s proposals on how to resolve the matter.’’
