Expedite payment, PDC urged
26/5/2005T he Star Penang

THE Penang Development Corporation (PDC) has been urged to settle the balance payment fast to owners of 60 unsafe flats in Bayan Baru.

Block H flats ad-hoc committee chairman Ab Rashid Abdullah said six families were still not keen on moving out from the 25-year-old flat block because they wanted full payment before vacating their premises.

He said PDC had so far paid all flat owners about 10% from the agreed offer prices to buy back the units.

“We hope PDC will expedite paying the balance payment due to us, so that we can use the money to service the loans for our new housing units,” he said in an interview recently.

On Feb 2, PDC advised the affected residents to move out by May 31, after the walk-up flats in Lorong Mahsuri 10 was found to have tilted more than a degree and moved 25.4cm from its axis.

Ab Rashid said PDC had offered to buy up all of the 60 affected units of Block H to demolish them.

Ab Rashid said PDC also agreed to pay six months rental to those who had rented out their units and two years of rental for those who had occupied their units.

Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Wong Mun Hoe urged the residents to be patient.

“Those who have opted to buy the completed flats in Sungai Dua need not worry because PDC will pay RM50,000 each directly to the developer,” he said.
