Report ‘builders who demand money for renovation’
The Star Penang 20/4/2005

LOW-COST housebuyers should report developers who demand money for renovation.

State Housing committee chairman Syed Amerrudin Syed Ahmad said they should lodge complaints with the state Housing Department.

He was winding up the debate on the motion of thanks on the Yang di-Pertua Negri's speech at the state assembly.

Phee Boon Poh (DAP-Sungai Puyu) had complained that developers demanded be-tween RM10,000 and RM12,000 for renovation from the housebuyers.

He said the buyers had paid between RM32,000 and RM35,000 for a flat and that it was difficult for them to come up with more money.

“The state government must act fast,’’ he said.

State Health committee chairman P.K. Subbaiyah in his reply to Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman (PAS-Per-matang Pasir) said a special squad was set up by the police early this year to tackle drug abuse.

He said that 10 cases were reported in the first three months of this year.

Speaking to reporters outside the House, Subbaiyah said of the 3,816 drug addicts caught last year, 2,160 were not repeat addicts. Most of them were from George Town, he said.
