Land clearing leaves residents fuming
08/04/2005 The Star

Residents of Taman Puncak Utama were stunned to discover massive land clearing being carried out opposite their houses.

They brought the matter to Kajang Municipal Council on its Customer Friendly Day on Mar 18 but were disappointed when they found out that the programme had been postponed without notice.

All they could do was leave a memorandum signed by the residents’ association on the council president’s clerk.

A resident who declined to be named said the residents were disturbed by the project as they had been kept in the dark about the nature and magnitude of the project and worried that it would cause pollution and pose health threats to them.

A statement issued by the council dated March 30, after StarMetro brought the matter to their attention, states that enforcement officers and corporate affairs personnel visited the area on March 28.

“Through their investigations and enquiries... the land developer had obtained no planning approval from MPKj’s Town Planning Department. Furthermore, the land is currently occupied by heavy machines.

“A notice has been issued to cease earthworks under the Road, Drain and Building Act. The developer was also instructed to stop operations and was fined for operating without a valid licence. He will be prosecuted if he fails to comply,” the notice read.
