Selangor To Act Against Erring Subsidiaries Only After Probe
bernama.com 12/3/2005

SHAH ALAM, March 12 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government will conduct a thorough investigation before taking action against its erring subsidiaries, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said Saturday.

The action would be taken based on facts and not just rhetoric, he said when asked whether the state government would reshuffle the management of its subsidiaries which had been prosecuted for offences.

"We have to investigate first why it happened, then we take action. We do not penalise people before knowing the reasons. To me, the decision must be based on clear facts. If we take action on other basis, it will be difficult," he said.

Yesterday, the Selangor State Development Corporation was fined RM300,000 by the Sessions Court after it pleaded guilty to developing land without approval near the Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Agricultural Park here.

Dr Mohamad Khir said the government would not show favouritism in its action as the law must be observed by all.

"It is a lesson to all to do their work according to the law. The laws are made to be complied with and not to be evaded," he said.

On the federal government's proposed takeover of the agricultural park, Dr Mohamad Khir said he had to carry out Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's directive first.

"Let me do my work first. I have to carry out the directive given to me. Some day, we will know the results. I cannot tell you what the directive is," he said.

Last Thursday, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Selangor government would decide whether to lease or alienate permanently the park to the federal government.
