Nowhere to lodge complaint
15/02/2005 New Straits Times

I AM very dissatisfied with the poor maintenance of my wife's apartment. I tried to find out which government agency I should turn to to complain about the matter.

We pay a monthly fee of RM70 but we are getting a raw deal. I have written twice to the general manager of the ,management about a problem in the roof above our unit, but nobody bothered to tell us that our complaints were being looked into.

So now to whom should I lodge a complaint? If there is no such agency, I hope the Government will set up one, because more and more apartments now charge a monthly service fee.

The matter was specified in the sales and purchase agreement. Upon reading the document, I found that housebuyers were at the losing end.

There are many companies which are not capable of doing the job properly, yet they still get money from the tenants. I hope the Government will be strict in issuing licences to operate such services. This is to ensure that such companies have the capital, manpower and expertise to deliver to the clients.

There should be an agency within the Housing and Local Government Ministry, for instance, to look into this issue.
