Scant attention paid to town planning

New Straits Times 12/12/2005

I WOULD like to highlight the poor town planning in Rawang.

The direct access road to Rawang from Jalan Kuching through Templer’s Park is a death trap for motorists.

To make things worse, the local authorities have allowed massive construction work along the congested main road into Rawang town.

The new and expensive Guthrie Highway to Rawang is another blunder. The highway ends right before the old Rawang interchange, which is in extremely bad shape. This contributes to traffic havoc in the already congested town.

I am surprised that in this day and age the authorities are still unable to properly manage a township. Rawang has factories which manufacture vehicles and even print the euro.

These facilities are worth millions in investments. Yet, the authorities are so laid -back about the problems in the town.

It does not make sense that Rawang is managed by two municipal councils. In any event, both the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council and the Selayang Municipal Council are doing a lousy job.
