Selangor Property Owners Owe RM545 Million In Assessment Rates
Bernama 30/11/2005

SHAH ALAM, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Residents and companies in Selangor owe RM545 million in assessment rates accumulated over the last 20 years with the highest amount being in the Klang Valley.

Selangor Land and Mineral Department's Director Zoal Azha Yusof said the department would issue a reminder to the top 10 debtors in each of the nine district in the state.

"We will start by persuading them to pay up but if it takes too long than we mean action," he told a press conference on real estate issues, here Wednesday.

The assessment rates in Selangor remain reasonable though it is anticipated to go up by 10 percent next year.

The rates last reviewed in 1996 with a hike of 40 percent, he said.

With the revision of the rates next year, he said, the department anticipates an additional collection of RM40 million annually compared to RM300 million collected annually since the last ten years.

On the strata title applications, Zoal Azha said 500 schemes, involving 38,138 lots, that supposed to apply for the strata title between 2004 and now have yet to do so.

Another 449 schemes involving 32,842 lots, who were supposed to apply between 1999 and 2003, were also overdue, he said.

About 2,355 schemes involving 130,359 lots were given strata titles up to last 25 Nov.

He said it takes 180 working days for processing strata titles in Selangor and currently the department is taking action on two premises in the Petaling District for their failure to apply for the strata titles.
