The full weight of the amended Housing Development Act is finally being felt by licensed and unlicensed developers who have committed various offences from 2003 up to last month.

And the Housing and Local Government Ministry's Enforcement Division has vowed to protect the interests of house buyers by strictly enforcing the stringent regulations that came into effect in December 2002.

The division is also closely monitoring existing housing projects to ensure that they are not delayed or abandoned.

Close to 700 rogue developers identified, 16 of them unlicensed Ninety-six facing 661 charges for various offences Another 80 are under investigation for not complying with Home Buyers Claims Tribunal awards

Total of 519 developers fined RM872, 900 for violating advertisement regulations, failing to submit twice- yearly reports and other offences

Most unlicensed developers found in the Klang Valley Hundreds of house buyers may have been cheated by unlicensed developers but only 37 have come forward to lodge reports against them
