Public Complaints Bureau revamp

New Straits Times 18/10/2005

PUTRAJAYA. Mon. - The Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) will be revamped immediately to make it more effective as a channel for Malaysians to voice their woes in dealing with the public sector.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the first ever visit to the PCB by a Prime Minister said the bureau will be expanded and its manpower beefed up. It will also become an agency that conducts surveys and gathers public feedback.

The PCB, he said must act beyond its current role of merely receiving complaints.

The revamp will include setting up an advisory council comprising private sector and NGO representatives, including from the media, and four key Government agencies.

"It will do more than wait for people to file complaints. It is going to be more proactive in chasing feedback on government projects and services," Abdullah said.

He made the comments during his surprise-working visit to the PCB today.

Abdullah held discussions with the bureau's top officials for more than an hour on ways the PCB could enhance public service efficiency.
