     PJ folk to pay higher 
    assessment

    PETALING JAYA: Assessment rates are set to increase by 10% for all 
    properties here except  condominiums, apartments and low-cost flats
    from next year.  
     
    Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MPPJ) president Datuk Ahmad Termizi Puteh 
    announced this when tabling the council’s 2006 budget yesterday. 
     
    The new rates were to increase the council's revenue and help MPPJ balance 
    its budget next year.  
     
    Revenue is estimated at RM204.97mil, while the council was expected to spend 
    RM204.906mil.  
     
    “The council has to strive to add more sources of revenue and be thrifty in 
    our expenses so our financial status would be more stable in the future,” 
    said Termizi.  
     
    Housing rates will be raised to 7.7% while other holdings will be raised to 
    8.8% in Section 1, Section 2, Section 3, Seri Setia, Kampung Baru Damansara 
    (Section 17A), PJS2, PJS4, PJS6 and parts of PJS10.  
     
    All properties in Kampung Kayu Ara, Kayu Ara Indah, Kampung Cempaka and all 
    traditional villages in Petaling Jaya will have their assessment rates 
    increased to 5.5%.  
     
    Low-cost houses (not flats) in Petaling Jaya Selatan and Petaling Jaya Utara 
    will have their rates increased to 7.7%.  
     
    In Bandar Sri Damansara, Taman Mayang Mas and Taman Megah Mas, the 
    assessment rates for residential homes and empty land will be increased to 
    5.5%, while that for other properties increased to 6.6%.  
     
    Farms in Petaling Jaya Utara will have their rates increased to 5.5%.  
     
    Assessment rates at all other areas not mentioned will be increased to 8.8%. 
    Assessment rates for Petaling Jaya were last increased in 2002.
