Need for legal clarity

NST 11/10/2005 V. SUBRAMANIAM, Kuala Lumpur

THE arguments on managing properties by S. Venkateswaran ("Uphold owners’ rights", NST Oct 5) have a lot of merit.

As an expatriate who lives in a rented condominium in Kuala Lumpur, I can empathise with unit owners.

It appears that the management virtually rules over the owners in matters of common facilities and the setting up of additional amenities.

There is no legal provision for a cohesive owners’ association to run the condominium.

When I first came to Malaysia I wanted to buy a property with a view to staying here for the long term.

However, I am now rethinking the idea because there is a need for more transparency and legal clarity in respect of ownership of property by foreigners.
