     Apartment plan: Objection
    hearing for Duta folk

    KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27

Residents of Taman Duta will have another chance to protest against the
development of 13 blocks of luxury apartments in Jalan Gallagher here.

A senior City Hall officer said the affected residents will be called for an
objection hearing, to allow them to express their objections verbally.

"This is a normal procedure. We will first publish a notice in local
newspapers, calling for objections to a project," said the officer
    yesterday.

The last date for the residents to submit their objections was Oct 16. The
officer said the relevant department will be sending out letters to inform
the residents on the date of the hearing.

"We are transparent here. After the hearing, we will prepare an evaluation
report for the mayor who will make the final decision on whether to approve
the project or not," he said.

On Oct 8, Taman Duta, Bukit Tunku and Sri Duta apartments residents staged a
protest at the Sri Duta 1 Apartment entrance against the development of the
luxury apartments which affects several areas there, specifically, Lots 765,
    766, 767 and 768.

Residents have been complaining that with the proposed development, the
green lung that many residents have enjoyed will gradually disappear.

The residents also complained that the density of Bukit Tunku and Taman Duta
residential areas would increase by eight times if the proposed 13-block
    condominium project is approved.

The increase in density, from the current 10 people per acre to 84 per acre
will contravene the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020, released in August
    2004.

The plan states that high density and high-rise development in the Federal
Hill, Taman Duta and Bukit Tunku areas should not be encouraged so as to
preserve the existing low density and high quality residential areas.

Bandar Raya Developments Berhad had submitted an application to Kuala Lumpur
City Hall to build 13 blocks of five-storey condominium complex comprising
209 units and two car park levels. |
