Check builder's background first, house buyers urged
The Star 15/9/2004 By SIMON KHOO

HOUSEBUYERS are urged to check a developer's background before investing in property, said Seremban MP Datuk Hon Choon Kim.

Hon, who is also Deputy Education Minister and Seremban MP, said doing so would ensure that the project would be completed on time and not abandoned.

“Beside checking on the developer's financial status and reliability, house buyers must also choose the location carefully.

“If they make a wrong decision, they will regret it later and there isn't much that the government can do to help.

“The developer may wind up and leave the house buyers in a lurch,” he said during the launching of a housing project in Taman Mutiara Galla by Prestajaya Sdn Bhd in Seremban recently.

Hon said when he was a state exco member, housing projects that were left abandoned in Negri Sembilan had been revived.

“With the assistance of the federal and state governments, we managed to revive the projects, much to the relief of the buyers.

“Imagine the inconvenience, amount of time wasted and money spent if the project was stalled,” he said.

Also present were Rasah MP Datuk Goh Siow, Rahang assemblyman Yip Chee Kiong, Prestajaya managing director Datuk Yap Kok Boon and Best Home Property Consultants Sdn Bhd managing director Ho Sweet Fun. A lion dance performance marked their arrival and the guests toured a show unit later.

Hon also gave away prizes to winners of a drawing competition held in conjunction with the launch.
