Utusan.com.my 12/8/2004

MELAKA Aug 11 - All it takes is only RM1 and you will be on your way to owning a three-bedroom low-cost house in Melaka.

The offer is valid during a three-day campaign to be launched by the state government here from Saturday. In all, 2,000 low cost houses, priced at RM35,000 each, in the state will be up for grabs.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, in announcing this Wednesday, said qualified buyers would be provided with 100 per cent housing loan from financial institutions.

"They only need to pay RM1 and the rest will be financed through bank loan," he told reporters after chairing the weekly meeting of the state executive council here.

On mini buses, he said the state government was not aware that the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) had approved application to operate mini buses in Melaka.

He said the CVLB would need to get the approval of the state government before it could allow mini buses to operate in the state.

"I don't want mini buses to cause traffic congestion in Melaka city," he said, commenting on a newspaper report that the CVLB had given the approval to a company to operate 24 mini buses in Melaka.

The move had also been opposed by stage bus operators in the state.

Mohd Ali said the state government had set up a "Unit Sahabat Belia (Friend to Youth Unit) under the Chief Minister's Office to faciliate youth participation in activities organised by the state government.
