Displaced residents seek completion of "guaranteed" flats
05/07/2004 NST

IDAMAN Putra Condominium Residents' Association chairman Albert Lee led a group of residents in an amicable meeting with Medan Idaman Sdn Bhd general manager K.S. Chai, recently to discuss a "Letter of Guarantee" dated April 28, 1994 from the developer.

Present to facilitate the meeting was Federal Territories Ministry's Parliamentary Secretary Yew Teong Look. Yew said the people concerned vacated their homes in order for Medan Idaman Sdn Bhd to proceed with its construction work.

In return, Medan Idaman issued a "Letter of Guarantee", which stated that the residents would be registered as applicants for a unit each of the proposed low-cost flats at Medan Idaman.

"However, it has been 10 years and the residents are still waiting," Lee said during a site visit to the Medan Idaman area at Batu 5, Jalan Gombak, Taman Medan Idaman, Kuala Lumpur.

Lee, 43, a businessman, was accompanied by Yew and the residents as they went up to the highest floor of Idaman Putra condominium to get a "bird's eye view" of possible sites for building the low-cost flats.

Other committee members present were Mohd Sidek Hussain, 44, and Lim Yoong Ching, 48.

Referring to the map of the proposed site, Yew said Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Mukim Setapak land title 27536 was listed as 4,855 square metres.

Yew said he would refer to City Hall on the suitability and status of the land and location.
