I SUPPORT the House Buyers Association’s
view point (NST June 5). Indeed, the urgent need to address the
perennial problem of abandoned housing projects is long overdue.
Thousands of purchasers paid hard earned money for their dream
homes, but their legitimate desires were shattered by unscrupulous
developers. There are developers who have collected as much as 80
per cent of the purchase price and then abandon the project quoting
cash flow problems as an excuse. Hence, the "build, then sell"
concept is a step in the right direction.
At the same time, the "build, then sell" variant proposed by the
House Buyers Association deserves consideration by the authorities
because it is aimed at safeguarding buyers and developers.
Now as regards to the many abandoned housing projects, the Minister
of Housing and Local Government must take action against errant
developers without fear or favour.
