Residential projects need looking into
NST 15/6/2004

WHILE the Federal Territories Ministry’s recent efforts to revive abandoned commercial projects within Kuala Lumpur is commendable, the ministry should also look at abandoned residential projects within Kuala Lumpur.

We are purchasers of low-cost and medium-cost apartments in Taman Setapak Jaya Baru located near Wangsa Maju in 1999, a privatised residential project by DBKL. It was supposed to be completed by 2002.

Up to now, the progress is only about 45 per cent for the medium-cost apartments and 85 per cent for the low-cost apartments. More worrying is that there has been a lack of any significant progress by the developer in the last 6-12 months.

Meetings with the developer and DBKL always result in more empty promises and excuses for the delays. Most of us are currently forced to rent houses while we still have to service the interest payments to the banks. Some of us are burdened by up to RM400 per month just in interest payments.

All of us are from the low-income and middle-income group and you can imagine our plight, having to pay out interest month after month for nothing.

We urge the Federal Territories Ministry to revive and complete this project. All we want is a place to call home.
