Developers should take heed of PM’s ‘build, then sell’ proposal
14/06/2004 NST By AMIRUDIN MAT PIAH, Subang Jaya

MALAYSIAN housing developers should take heed of the Prime Minister’s proposal to "build first, sell later".
The argument by the president of REHDA that the Malaysian economy would slump if this proposal were to be implemented is not acceptable. Also, we should not wait for the Government to enforce procedures and have developers react to them.

The prices of new houses that are being advertised are ridiculously high. I am sure the developers can make 30 to 40 per cent gross margins on sales. The housing business is profitable, that is why developers are in it. Buyers should not bear the burden of high prices and abandoned projects.
