Experts: Provide correct data on housing
The Star 27/1/2004

MIRI: Inaccurate readings on the housing needs of the general public compiled by certain research units have resulted in a serious mismatch of housing demand and supply in most parts of the country.

Housing experts from public and private organisations want the Housing and Local Government Ministry to look into ways to develop a more accurate data bank as a source of reference for developers and planners before they begin their housing projects.

This was one of the seven resolutions passed by participants of the three-day national conference on affordable housing that concluded yesterday.

About 120 experts related to the housing and construction industry attended the conference organised by the Miri branch of the Institution of Engineers and the Housing Research Centre of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Among other resolutions passed were those urging the Government to hasten the implementation of the National Housing Policy and for housing players to place greater emphasis on the indoor and outdoor environmental aspects of low-cost housing.
