MDS promises to help housebuyers

The Star 4/6/2003

The Sepang District Council (MDS) will meet with officers from the Sepang District Office to find a way to help residents of Taman Murni, near Sepang town, get individual titles for the terrace houses they had bought over 10 years ago.

Council president Mohd Arif Abdul Rahman said the buyers had been waiting for a very long time and some were now facing problems in refinancing or selling their houses.

He said the council would have to look into the procedures involved in issuing individual titles to the houseowners before deciding how it could help them.

Earlier, councillor Yap Ee Wah had urged the council to help the housebuyers who had been issued with certificate of fitness (CF) almost 10 years ago but were still waiting for the individual titles for the properties.

He explained that although the council had a policy of not issuing CF for properties which did not have individual titles, it had some years ago given the CF for Taman Sepang Utama, after classifying it as a special case.

"The housebuyers at the time had come to Datuk Liew Chee Keong and myself asking us to help them obtain the CF so that they could move in because they could not service the housing loan while at the same time rent houses elsewhere," Yap said.

He said Liew had then raised the matter with the council and on humanitarian grounds the council had issued the CF although the individual titles had not been issued yet.

Yap also informed the council that buyers at the housing and commercial units in Taman Sepang Utama had decided to ask the Housing and Local Government Ministry to help as work on the project had halted for a long time.

He said the ministry was currently looking into the status of the project before deciding on the next course of action.

He added that he recently learnt that the company behind the project had undergone a change of management and this was the cause of for the delay in completing the units.
