Blacklisted developers face two-year suspension
The Star 18/08/2001 By Devid Rajah

MALACCA: Blacklisted developers and contractors will be barred from carrying out state government projects for two years.

And the state government will monitor their progress closely after their "suspension" is over, Chief Minister Datuk Wira Mohd Ali Rustam said.

"We introduced this (move) three months ago," Ali told reporters after launching the sea reclamation project by Konsortium Pembangunan Limbungan Melaka here yesterday.

On claims that a company director from the abandoned RM300mil Bandar Melaka Utama project in Semabok was allegedly involved in the RM1.5bil commercial development project on a 35.6ha area in Limbongan where the reclamation was taking place, Ali said checks would be made to verify this.

Twelve people comprising DAP assemblymen Sim Tong Him (Banda Hilir), Goh Leong San (Tengkera) and Lim Jak Wong (Bachang), and the Liga Maju property buyers' action committee members carried placards bearing the words: "We are victims of Bandar Melaka; YAB mengapa tak tolong kami (YAB, why are you not helping us?)"

Sim said the buyers' action committee protested because they received information that a director of Liga Maju was allegedly involved in the latest project.
