190 Housing projects abandoned
The Star 30/05/2001

There are now a total of 190 abandoned housing projects according to records with the Housing and Local Government Ministry, its minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said.

He said that as of December a total of 514 housing projects were abandoned throughout the country.
Selangor topped the list with 80 cases followed by Perak with 78.

In his written reply to senator Abdul Malek Abdul Ghani, Ong said 324 projects out of the 514 were revived.

He said the ministry was finding ways to revive the other abandoned projects.

Among steps being taken were the restarting of abandoned projects through the Abandoned Housing Project Fund and Syarikat Perumahan Negara.

Another measure was to be a middleman between developers and housebuyers.

Ong said the ministry also continued to monitor complaints from the buyers.

The legal clinic set up under the ministry also gave advice to housebuyers, he added.
