Housebuyers guide on website
20/04/2001 The Star By Lim Ai Lee

PENANG: Housebuyers who face various problems such as housing delays or defects can now visit a new website to find out more about their rights.

House Buyers Association (HBA) secretary-general Chang Kim Loong said yesterday the HBA website would serve as an "A to Z'' guide for purchasers.

He said housebuyers would be advised on what to look out for prior to buying a property and what measures to take when faced with problems arising during or after the completion of a project.

"The HBA will also carry out e-surveys to get feedback from housebuyers on current issues, including proposed amendments to existing legislations that affect them,'' he said in an interview.

The website which is www.hba.org.my will be launched by Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting in Kuala Lumpur today.

Chang said housebuyers could also e-mail their enquiries to
housebuyersassociation@yahoo.com, adding that the HBA had a panel of volunteers, comprising lawyers, architects and engineers to advise them on legal or technical issues.

The HBA, a non-governmental organisation registered last July, was formed to ensure a level playing field between developers and housebuyers.

Chang said the association, which now has about 600 members mostly in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, hoped to spread its wings to other states such as Penang, Johor, Perak and Negri Sembilan soon.
